PASSION
According to the dictionary, Passion is defined as “the strong and barely controllable emotion”. Every human is passionate for something or someone. The Dictionary also recognizes that passion is the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. Jesus’ death for us was His passion. His intense love for us was what kept Him faithful to his path to the cross despite the immense suffering he would have to face. This is the true definition of passion, something you are willing to sacrifice, fight, and die for. It’s exemplified through Christ’s passion for us.
Although Christ’s passion is the ultimate example of passion, I also believe that we as human can also experience passion for many things. I believe God has given us things that make our hearts burn and come alive. It can come from a hobby that grips us, or a calling that makes your heart burn, or experiencing a sight that is so moving your soul stirs.
What Makes My Heart Burn
Currently God has given me a passion for the question, “what makes your heart Burn?” I get excited when I think about people wanting to live out their passions for God. One of the things that makes, my heart burn is empowering people to live for God through the things that make them unique. I believe that a person can truly be who they were called to be when they take their God-given talents and use them for serving God. As an aspiring pastor I envision my ministry to be a place of empowerment as I hope that people could come and learn to give their gifts to God, and see how they can be a light to the world through their gifts. I also get excited over the idea that people could then turn those talents such as surfing, art, sports, music, humor, or even relationship building to help build communities that could disciple others.
With that being said, I am also a man of passion towards his hobbies. I have recently gotten into surfing. Lately all I can think about is surfing, and for once I feel like I truly found a hobby that I can call a passion of mine. I research about it when I have down time, I day dream about waves, and I eagerly await the next opportunity for me to be able to go surfing. On top of that, I get excited to talk about it and even share the “stoke” with people around me. Besides ministry, this would be something that has utterly gripped my heart. With that being said, I get even more excited about the idea that I could one day use surfing as an outlet for worship to God, evangelism, and relationship building.
Promising Marriage of Passion and Ministry
One of the ways I get excited about my vision is by the way I dream of using my passions for God. I get excited at the idea of being able to give up my love of surfing to transcend just personal pleasure into something of eternal worth.
Already I talk to people in the line up, take people surfing with me, and use it as an opportunity to build relationship with my brother and I. It is opportunities like this that encourages me to continue to work towards my vision of empowering people to use their passions for God.
A Passion is something you are ready to suffer for. Just as Christ was passionate for us enough to die, what is something that burns your heart so much that you are ready to suffer for the sake of accomplishing that goal, hobby, and dream.
What is it that makes your heart burn?
